Dubai International Motor Show 2017, now in its 14th year is well underway with a jaw-dropping collection of the world’s supercar. The Dubai International Motor Show is the largest international automotive event across the Middle East and North Africa. CarInsight.Com is rounding up all the new cars, world debuts, and launches in our one-stop shop Dubai Motor Show guide. Hosted at the Dubai World Trade Center, Dubai International Motor Show is open to the public from 14 – 18 November 2017. Mixed in with the expected thrifty EVs, safe crossovers, and other cars at the 2017 Dubai Motor Show including reminders that car designers still like to have fun. From futuristic approaches to cool and funky designs which are more creative than ever before. Here are some of the coolest design elements you’ll find at the show.
For those who have not heard this automotive brand name, BORGWARD Group AG is a German-based international automotive manufacturer with a strong history. In the late 1950's, BORGWARD was the 3rd largest German car manufacturer, selling more than one million vehicles and leading the sales statistics in the German premium segment. Now, Borgward officially launched its operations in the Gulf states. Following months of extensive vehicle climate testing and the establishment of an effective sales organization in the region, Borgward has now introduced the Middle East version of its BX5 and BX7 SUV models to Gulf markets.
BX5 is equipped with 1.8-liter direct injection turbo engine (188 hp / 280 NM torque), it boasts of low fuel consumption and emission and has excellent noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance.
The sophisticated and wide-body Borgward BX7 has a 5-, or 7-seat version -- all of which exemplify spacious interiors and intelligent all-wheel-drive system. BX7 is equipped with a 2.0-liter direct injection turbo engine (224 hp / 300 NM torque) and a 6-speed automatic transmission. According to an official announcement in Borgward’s press conference BX7 will be sold starting from AED 85,000, while the BX5 will be starting from AED 75,000.
Aston Martin presented with a show-stopping display of cars especially with the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, being shown for the first time in the region to the public. The product of a unique Innovation Partnership between the British luxury brand and eminent F1TM team Red Bull Racing, this ambitious, uncompromising and wholly extraordinary collaboration combines the vision and skills of two world-leading brands to create a road car the like of which has never been seen before.
The newly launched V8-powered DB11 is shown for the first time in the Middle East at the show. Aston Martin’s definitive GT - the acclaimed DB11 - is now available with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The new powerplant provides the opportunity to reveal more of the DB11’s sporting character while expanding its global appeal with a combination of exceptional performance and improved efficiency.
The two-seater supersports car, Mercedes-AMG Project ONE show car, brings the very latest and most efficient, fully-fledged Formula 1 hybrid technology from the race track to the road. The high-performance plug-in hybrid drive system consists of a highly integrated and intelligently networked unit comprising one hybrid, turbocharged combustion engine with a total of four electric motors. This show car is said to produce over 1,000 hp and reach top speeds beyond 350 km/h.
Mercedes-Benz Vans has placed the spotlight at this year’s Dubai International Motor Show on its V-Class, a model that has redefined the MPV. As the largest member of the passenger car family, the V-Class has set new benchmarks in its segment with its superior design and host of innovations. With capacity for up to eight people, the vehicle combines exemplary functionality with high-class appeal, efficient driving pleasure and a five star safety rating that distinguishes automobiles bearing the three-pointed star. This makes the Mercedes V-Class the perfect vehicle for those who appreciate great spaciousness, but do not want to sacrifice style and comfort. For the first time in this segment, Mercedes-Benz is also offering the AMG Line equipment package, enabling the new MPV to be individualised to suit any taste and requirement. Even more than that, it is ideally suited to use as a luxurious VIP or hotel shuttle.
Mercedes-Maybach S 650
Celebrating its regional premiere at the Dubai International Motor Show is the Mercedes-Maybach S 650, reaffirming its position as the ultimate model for individuality. The luxury brand combines the perfection of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class with the exclusivity of Maybach. As the world's quietest production sedan with a spacious First-Class rear suite, refined materials and stylish controls, the new Maybach S-Class is the model ideal for passengers who seek the highest levels of comfort, luxury and exclusivity. The new model has been redesigned to offer refinements that accentuate the Mercedes-Maybach's timelessly modern shape, from chrome detailing of its majestic façade to an elegantly sporting array of wheels. The spacious flagship model range exceeds the Mercedes-Benz S-Class by 20cm in both dimensions. Mercedes-Maybach S 650 is available in the region with prices starting from $209,300.
Cadillac’s stunning Escala concept car made its first appearance in the Middle East at the Dubai International Motor Show. These design innovations are driving the next phase of the brand’s ongoing expansion. Cadillac’s Escala concept amplifies the new design DNA of the New York car brand, that was introduced with the new CT6 and XT5 models, which are on display. Designed to be both a driver’s car and an indulgent flagship sedan, Cadillac’s Escala concept showcases future design and technical systems in development and is a concept for a more expressive, expansive companion to the recently launched CT6.
The redesigned XTS sedan enjoyed its regional launch, alongside 2018 versions of favorites like the Escalade, CT6 and XT5.
INFINITI Motor Company revealed the new QX80 full-size luxury SUV for the first time at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show. The QX80 has a refined and spacious cabin that features high-quality materials, a hand-crafted finish and advanced drive-assist technologies. With a taut yet comfort-oriented suspension, and ample performance from its 5.6-liter V8 engine,
Audi’s main highlight is the fourth generation of the new Audi A8, equipped with V6 turbocharged engine 3.0 TF SI with 250 kW (340 hp). The Audi A8 is stylistically defining and signals the dawning of a new design era for the entire brand.
The second regional premiere is the Audi RS 5. Available in the Middle East region from December 2017, the car’s all-new 2.9 TFSI bi-turbo engine produces 450 hp and delivers 600 Nm of torque.
The third big highlight of the show for Audi is introduced by Audi Sport customer racing, the customer racing program of Audi Sport GmbH. Following Audi Sport’s launch of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 race car in 2009, the presentation of the second generation of this successful model in 2015, and the RS 3 LMS for the TCR category in 2016, the portfolio of race car models Audi offers to customers has been extended with the R8 LMS GT4 this year.
Jaguar revealed its latest compact performance SUV with sports car looks and performance. This is the first appearance that the new Jaguar E-PACE is making in this region. The Jaguar E-PACE is a five-seat, compact SUV that packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle. E-PACE is available with a powerful 300PS Ingenium petrol turbo engine powering the sporting SUV from 0-100km/h in just 6.4 seconds before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 243km/h.
You can enjoy to see the new generation Porsche Cayenne which comes with a choice of new V6 and V8 petrol engines boasting 250 kW (340 hp), 324 kW (440 hp) or 404 kW (550 hp) – combined as standard with the new eight-speed Tiptronic S. The new Cayenne gets mixed tyres and rear-axle steering as on the 911, as well as three-chamber air suspension and electric rolling-motion compensation increase sportiness and comfort. New functions, new services, new apps: with Porsche Connect Plus, Porsche is raising vehicle networking to a new level. This system belongs to the standard equipment of the new Cayenne and includes, among other things, an LTE telephone module with integrated SIM card, online navigation including real-time traffic information and intelligent online voice control.
Other highlights not to miss are Panamera Sport Turismo, Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and 911 Turbo S Exclusive.
KIA Motors Corp., through its sole UAE distributor Al Majid Motors Co., has launched the all-new Stinger, a premium sports sedan, at the Dubai International Motor Show 2017. The vehicle made its first UAE appearance at the event and will go on sale globally during the fourth quarter of this year. As a car without a predecessor, a true gran turismo, the Stinger will delight enthusiastic drivers with its head-turning aesthetic, superior comfort, agile handling, unruffled ride and high levels of body control. The vehicle will be available with either a 2.0-litre turbo gasoline or a 3.3-litre twin-turbo gasoline V6 engine. Producing 370ps, the KIA Stinger’s 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 enables the car to accelerate from 0-to-100kph in just 4.9 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating production KIA ever. The Stinger’s responsive, eight-speed automatic transmission is available with both 2.0 and 3.3 engines.
The KIA Stinger is being showcased alongside the KIA Niro, an urban crossover hybrid vehicle that recently set a Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption driving across the USA from coast to coast, and the facelift version of the seven-seater KIA Sorento.
Nissan is showcasing exciting prototypes and production cars at this year’s Dubai International Motor Show, giving customers a glimpse of its newest and future innovations. Nissan’s stand highlights Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s approach to changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society. The next generation all-electric Nissan LEAF has been unveiled for the first time in the Middle East. The Expo 2020-branded Nissan LEAF is on display following the appointment of Nissan as the Official Automotive Partner for Expo 2020 Dubai. Electric vehicles including the all-new Nissan LEAF will be part of the Expo 2020 fleet.
Also making its regional debut at the show is the Nissan BladeGlider, a working prototype high performance electric vehicle with a revolutionary sports car design. It’s rear-hinged doors provide a unique entry and exit to the cabin, while the open roof and integrated roll-over protection structure offer the exhilaration of an open-topped race car with the safety of a coupe.
Also launched at the Dubai International Motor Show is the all-new Nissan Maxima Midnight Edition 2018. The Midnight Edition includes all the key features of the popular Maxima SR grade, as well as a sport-tuned suspension, a front chassis performance damper, black sport spoiler and black rear diffuser. Additional features also include premium Ascot leather appointed seats with diamond quilted Alcantara® inserts, climate controlled front seats, LED low beam headlights and a 19-inch gloss black aluminum alloy wheels.
Al Habtoor Motors, Mitsubishi's official distributor in the UAE unveiled Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The all new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a fusion of sharp coupe looks and dynamic SUV mobility with signature Mitsubishi styling and performance. Powered by a direct-injection downsize turbo engine that provides superior fuel efficiency and rich torque, equivalent to a 2.4L engine. Boasting a S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) system and high rigid body, the new compact SUV is built for rough roads and other challenging conditions while letting drivers stay in confident control with agility and quick response. The Eclipse Cross promises a new realm of driving pleasure. The Eclipse Cross will be available in the UAE from the beginning of 2018.
