Powerful: TFSI engine

The new Audi Q5 and SQ5 combine ample power with efficiency and are launching in the Middle East with one powerful and efficient engine variant each.

 

The Q5 is equipped with the further developed 2.0 TFSI has an output of 252 hp, yet it only consumes 7.2 litres of gasoline per 100 km, which equates to 154 grams CO2 per km.

 

The new Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI delivers a performance of 354 hp as it is the sportiest model of the Q5 model series. The turbocharged aluminium engine delivers a constant 500 Nm of torque from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm. The performance from zero to 100 km/h is acquired in 5.4 seconds and the top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h. The new Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI consumes just 8.3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres – a CO2 equivalent of 189 grams per kilometre.

 

The turbocharger operates according to the twin-scroll principle as it is replacing the mechanical compressor of the previous engine of the SQ5. The exhaust branches of the two cylinder banks run separately in the exhaust manifold and in the turbocharger housing and only merge before the turbine wheel. The outcome of this technology is that it improves the flow characteristics so that the turbine responds more spontaneously. This makes a significant contribution to the early and powerful torque build-up. The turbocharger is located within the 90-degree V of the cylinder banks. To get the 3.0 TFSI to respond spontaneously and directly, this arrangement enables compact construction and minimal flow losses.

 

Versatile and efficient: drivetrain

The automatic transmission integrates a fuel-saving freewheel function as the drivetrain of the mid-size SUV has been redeveloped from the ground up. The driver has two options to control it by a selection lever or by shift paddles on the steering wheel; in both cases, the control signals are transmitted electronically.

 

The new Quattro drivetrain with ultra technology is standard equipment. The rear-axle drive is disengaged and re-engaged depending on the needs with the help of Quattro with ultra technology always disengages the rear-axle drive whenever it is not needed, and if necessary it can proactively re-engage it. The new concept boosts efficiency without reducing traction or driving dynamics.

In addition, wheel-selective torque control gives handling a refined touch. A dynamic, precise and controllable driving experience is delivered by the intelligent software solution.

 

The chassis

Handling of the SQ5

For the Audi SQ5, a fast and smooth-shifting eight-speed Tiptronic transmits the power in the new Audi SQ5. The gears play a crucial role in the performance of the car as the lower gears feature short, sporty ratios, whereas the upper gears are long so as to reduce the engine speed and fuel consumption. The transmission automatically switches to freewheeling mode as soon as the driver lifts their foot off the gas pedal at speeds between 55 and 160 km/h, provided that the function is activated in Audi drive select, ensuring even greater fuel efficiency.

 

The Quattro permanent all-wheel drive contributes to the sporty handling. During normal driving, it distributes the engine power with a slight rear-axle bias. When necessary, the lion’s share of the power is sent to the axle with the better traction. The software function slightly brakes the inside wheels during the dynamic cornering. The car is very smooth as it turns itself into the curve pretty slightly. The turn-in behaviour stays neutral longer, making the handling stable, precise and agile.

 

The new Audi SQ5 has sporty handling qualities that rest on a suspension system with five-link axles at the front and rear. Greater stability at the limit along with increased agility with significantly improved comfort is provided by the complex design. A particularly widespread between comfort and dynamics is featured on the standard damper control. Integrated into the Audi drive select system along with the engine, steering, Tiptronic and optional sports differential is the adaptive CDC dampers (continuous damping control).

 

The new electromechanical power steering adjustment is also an important contribution to the driving dynamics of the SQ5. The dynamic steering is optionally available, which varies its ratio depending on the speed and steering angle.

 

The price range for Audi Q5 is 183,900 AED and for Audi SQ5  is 249,000 AED. Manufactured at a newly constructed plant in Mexico, the new Audi Q5 model range is now available at all Audi dealerships in the Middle East.
