Bugatti Chiron: The New Speed Machine to take over the Bugatti’s Legacy.

It often happens in our Automotive World that when it seems like it is the pinnacle of ingenuity and power, suddenly something else just comes out with a bang leaving everyone astonished one other time. This time it is Bugatti Chiron, all set to break the records of its predecessor Bugatti Veyron.

 

Seems like it has become the dramatic trend for the company to keep raising the bars in the most unbelievable ways. In 1999 when the company presented Veyron as the Concept and claimed that it could produce a car with 1,000 horsepower and a top speed of 250 mph. Shattering everyone’s belief about the company’s capabilities Bugatti successfully delivered Veyron and even Veyron Super Sport after it, proving their competence and conviction. For Veyron, Parent company Volkswagen say quite candidly that the car was not being sold to raise profits, but to simply push the boundaries of what was considered possible. Now once again they have raised the bars introducing Chiron. “We will dramatically raise the bar in terms of top speed, we will dramatically increase the power by 25 per cent, the aerodynamics are better, the road holding is better. We didn’t need a hybrid.” said Bugatti’s CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer. Bugatti’s Closest rivals Mclaren P1, LaFerrai, and Porsche 918 comes in Hybrid, unlike Bugatti Chiron which is still a fuel guzzling beast with no plans in that direction as the company doesn’t want to put extra battery weight and compromise on speed.

 

 

Bugatti Chiron is mounted with an 8.0L W12 engine with amazing four turbo boosters, the engine is a development of the Veyron’s engine. Chiron produces a vital power of 1479bhp and 1180lb-ft in comparison to Veyron Super Sport’s 1183bhp and 1106lb-ft of torque, and can ingest entire of its 100liter Fuel tank in just 9mins as compare to Super Sport’s 12mins. Chiron is also equipped with an active exhaust manifold with a flap that turns at 3,700 rpm putting all four Turbo boosters in action, at lower RPM to ensure optimal low-speed responsiveness it only ducts its exhaust to two turbos. At full work cycle, all 4 Turbos can provide whopping 26.8 psi of boost.

 

 

 

 

It's 7-Speed Dual Clutch Gearbox is more strengthened than before and its powertrain is also super-sized. It's improved air-cooling system can pump around 60,000 litres of air per minute through the engine and coolant pump can circulate 800litres in the same time period. A total of 10 radiators are employed to keep the temperature of the vehicle in control.

 

This 1500HP pushes the vehicle up to the speed of 261mph, although it will take you to 236mph only unless you put a special key into the slot on the floor to take you into the Top-speed mode, it cuts the power after reaching 261mph for safety reasons. Real Speed for Chiron is not yet tested but Bugatti Engineers and Test Drivers are sure that this machine can easily break the 268mph record of Veyron Super Sport. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 2.5 seconds, 0-124mph in less than 6.5 seconds and 0-186mph in under 13.6 seconds, crazy right.

 

 

 

 

Now to control this sort of speed, braking was also needed to be improved, Chiron now have bigger brakes with 20mm large and 20mm wide discs made of carbon silicon carbide- light and strong, held by the big sized Titanium Piston Calipers for all the squeezing, 8 Pistons at front and 6 at rear surrounded by the ducted heat shields to absorb all the generated heat by all that high speed friction. Passive Braking Rear Wing is much wider than before with angle positions from around -10 Degrees (when fully retracted) to 49 Degree (at Full Air brake Position), this wing keeps an angle of 3 Degrees during Top Speed Run.

 

The Exterior of Bugatti Chiron is somewhere influenced from Gran Turismo Concept showcased in Frankfurt motor Show 2015. Body lines and looks for this new Bugatti can never disappoint Bugatti lovers. It's Quad LED lights and Side Curve doubled their role as Air inputs for the vehicle. Its rear shape creates a suction effect, keeping the engine cool and reduce the drag, having 1.6m wide strip of 82 LED’s acting as multifunctional lights. More or less Chiron is of the same size as of Veyron, having 1mm longer wheelbase, 14mm wide and just 6mm taller dimensions.

 

 

 

 

A similar statement can be applied to the interior lines as well, Bugatti has tried to give a special feel, with the thin center console with just four knobs with the speedometer that goes all the way up to 500kmph. Chiron comes with five drive modes  ‘Lift’, ‘Auto’, ‘Autobahn’, ‘Handling’ and ‘Top Speed’ to choose from. An LC (Launch Control) switch is mounted over the Steering on the bottom side.To engage, press the brakes fully with your foot and then press LC button over your steering and immediately punch the gas, the engine will take you to the 3000 rpm and hold it there. The Seven speed dual-clutch gear unit is pretty smooth and gives a feel of a CVT while you spin around.

 

 

 

 

Customers for Chiron are usually Billionaires and Big Shots, who can really afford this bigger than everything Car. Durheimer describes them as “extraordinary people” and “not standard car enthusiasts.” On average they own “64 cars, 3 jets, 3 helicopters, and a yacht, and drive 2,500 kilometers per year in the car.” It is priced at around 2.4 Million Euros for its local market and at around 2.9 Million Dollars.

 

Chiron just nailed this entry extending the Veyron’s Legacy. Apart from raising Top-Speed Bar, it sets an excellent example of Craftsmanship and Engineering. It is quite an achievement to build a product like Bugatti Chiron. Surely it wasn’t an easy walk but clearly reflects the conviction of Team Bugatti in building a Car like Chiron.
